Getting To Grips With The World of Batteries

Having been here over 3 months now I feel I am starting to settle in and get to know my new work colleagues. We have been on team building nights out and also had a work trip to the eCommerce Expo in Manchester. Added to that are a few local networking events and client visits, safe to say its been a busy start.

I have also spent a day in our production unit where our battery specialists put together bespoke battery packs tailored to the needs of our wide variety of customers in the public and private sector. It was good to see how things work but I think Paul, Russ and the girls were glad to see the back of me after my struggles with light assembly work. Lynne was however keen to point out I’d have got the hang of it after doing thousands of them like her and the rest of the team!

It is not an exaggeration to say the last 3 months have flown over and I have picked up a lot of new knowledge about batteries. A month or so prior to my arrival, the only knowledge I had of batteries were the Duracell AA cells which power my remote controls and the Ansmann packs I used to use in my remote control toys as a boisterous young lad back in the 90s. We have over 1000 products and literally thousands of different customers so I am not quite there yet – do bare with me for the time being.

I am looking forward to the next few months with a trip to Frankfurt to visit one of our major suppliers – Tadiran Batteries and their lithium battery production facility. I have brushed up my battery knowledge, but now for the German phrases………

November is also set to be a busy month with a whole week out of the office promoting our Petzl head torches for half the week and bespoke battery packs for the other half. I will be back with a guest blog posting in the next couple of months with an update!

Infectious Enthusiasm for Whatever you do!

We have had yet another Bank Holiday, makes you wonder how we can get any work done sometimes. Spent the weekend catching up on things and having a general think about how to move the company forward this year. It is going to be a very challenging year ahead. We are planning a really big and exciting move for our company.

A big part of the plan will eventually involve taking on more staff , was thinking about the characteristics of the perfect employee. I think that demonstrating an infectious enthusiasm for whatever you do really helps; Attitude and commitment cannot be taught. Skills can be learnt by most people, but in this day and age you need to demonstrate that extra spark and willingness to demonstrate a desire to make a difference.
Competition is tight in every market, we ourselves are facing tremendous competition on the internet. It is a continual fight to find that Unique Selling Point, something that makes us stand out amongst the crowd.
Good People make good companies and good companies make good products and supply good service.

Battery, Batteries and Even More Batteries!

Pleased to announce that today we just appointed a new Business Development Manager, he is relatively new to the world of batteries. Like most people out there, he probably did not realise how many different types of batteries there could possibly be, and how many different battery applications and niche markets there could possibly be.

Steve Winder, comes from a Marketing Based backround, educated to Degree Level and with a CIM Marketing Diploma we have are positive that he will soon get to grips with the many different battery types we currently stock, and the major Battery Manufacturers we partner with like Duracell, Tadiran, Saft and Ansmann.

Young Andrew Completes Work Experience

Off To A Racing Start!

Young Student Andrew Nickerson was presented a Remote Control Kit Car after completing his two weeks work experience with Cell Pack Solutions.

Andrew, a student of Mortimer School and also on the TDR young apprentice program spent two weeks at the company working in the Custom Battery Assembly Division and in the company’s newly established Remote Control Hobbies Division. As part of his experience he built a Racing Car from Kit form and assisted in Repairs as well as getting to grips with the assembly processes involved in Custom Battery Pack Design.

Derek Hunter Divisional Manager of CPS HOBBIES decided that it would be a nice gesture to give Andrew a reward for his enthusiasm demonstrated over the time he spent with us. This is the second year in row the company has assisted in the Schools Work Experience Scheme, we had full support from all parties Connexions, Mortimer School and TDR and are looking forward to getting involved in the future.

Ever Increasing Staff

Cell Pack Solutions Team

Today we decided to update our staff group photo, as the old one did not show all our current staff members and was quite out of date. The new photo shows some of the people that are currently employed with the company, there were still a few missing. For those employers out there I am sure they feel the same, getting all the staff in at one time only ever seems to happen at the xmas party!
