The Benefits of Twitter – Must Twitter Fish Fight!

Mount Everest Image 1
Twittering is one of the easiest, and in my opinion one of the fun ways of keeping abreast of news, promoting your business, keeping a record of daft thoughts and picking up the thoughts and ideas of some fantastically clever people. You can follow people you find interesting and then unfollow them if they start to become a bit to mundane with their posts. The great thing that is their choice to write what they want and it is your choice to read them if you want to.

In my case I tend to follow comedians, entrepreneuers and people who might have something to say that interests me. I have used it to meet new contacts that may be useful to growing my business. I will often retweet bits of information that I have found useful and have entered numberous quizzes and competitions.
I have been fortunate to have won a book on Geordie Humour – the famous Fairly Truthful Guide to Geordie. I enjoyed his work so much that I decided to meet him personally, bought more books to give away as presents and we may end up doing some further work together. I also won a 14″ canvas print from a company called Crafty Canvas. I decided to get print done from one the images taken on my Trip to Everest Base Camp last May. It should arrive any day now and will undoubtledly lead to me purchasing a few more in the next couple of weeks. I am a great believer of throwing out sprats to catch a mackeral. That reminds me, if you have not already done so then please check this site out FISHFIGHT, more than 550,000 people have signed up to highlight their disgust at the waste that goes on in the Fishing Industry due to the rules that our elected parliaments made and now allow to happen.
Twittering can prove to be interesting, I set myself daft targets to get retweets or messages from some famous twitterers. I managed to get Lord Sugar to respond to a question. On the Apprentice he said the “Early bird catches the worm” So I responded that “The second mouse gets the cheese”. His direct response was “Never pat a burning dog”. Not quite as famous as KING ERICS ” When the seagulls follow the trawler, it’s because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea. Thank you very much”, but it was just as strange.

I have always said that the simple things keep me happy, and twitter is so simple. I hope to pick up the other Dragons comments in due course as a bit of fun.

I have to say that today I got a follow out of the blue from Duncan Drasdo – the CEO behind the MUST campaign to free Man Utd from the Glazers. I have folllowed UTD for more than 40 years and I really believe that most fans whatever their allegiance would like to have more FAN POWER within their clubs. Football is being ruined by mismanagement all over the country. I find it hard to call football a business, its not like any business I would run. I was reminded of my own crowning achievement of last year, so I decided to post the image above. It is of me sitting at the Top of Mt Kala Patthar at a height of 18200ft, proudly holding the green and gold scarf aloft. I left the scarf with one of the Sherpas, so it this being now being worn up somewhere up in the HIMALAYAS as we speak.

Twitter is like that, it can take you in a million directions without moving from your desk.

If you disagreely strongly with any of my comments then dont worry just switch off, but if you found any inspiration then great.

South Shields Climber Conquers Everest!

Finally got round to cleaning the old walking boots today and contemplating what could be next ?

I have to say congratulations to Steve Berry, whilst our group got as far as Base Camp and Mt Kalapathar, Steve was preparing himself to make the climb to the very top of Everest. I can only imagine how tough that could have been. His last attempt 3 years ago ended prematurely, not far from the end, due to the tragic death of one of his party.

By absolute coincidence it seems that Steve lives literally one street away from me, I want to meet up with him, so if anyone reads this blog I would be grateful if you would pass on my details.

Everest Trip Photographs

Mount Everest Image 2
Many of you will know that I returned safe and sound from my Trek to Everest, having lost around 1 stone in weight. It was an awesome experience, the scenery at times was unique and breathtaking. Truly a once in a life time experience.  It has taken the best part of two weeks but I think the infamous “Delhi Belly” has finally settled down and I will be getting back into training and walking this weekend to keep this lost weight at bay and hopefully build on this.

I have posted a few images on this blog and for those of you that are interested I have included a link to FLICKR where more images are available to veiw. There are 1000s, with 19 people on the trip there are many images from many different perpectives.

Thanks once again to everyone who sponsored me , and to those who gave me words of incouragement.

Warmest regards

Sherpa “Eddie  C”

Back From the top of the World!

Mount Everest Image 3
Arrived back from my Trek to Base Camp Everest.
The above image show me standing at the top of Mount Kala Patthar, at a height of 5545 metres. Mount Everest towers in the background, the weather was blustery, but extremely bright. The views of the Himalayan Mountain range was breathtakingly spectacular. The final climb was a tiring but rewarding and followed a week long TREK overcoming periods of Altitude Sickness and continual headaches, it was amazing and something I will never ever forget.
I will post more information and images shortly but in the meantime this is a quick blog to say thanks to all the people made contributions to my Charity Collection.

On top of the World

Last blog for for a couple of weeks, Have been looking forward to this for a long time.

I will finally be able to say

“Look Ma I am on top of the World”

Wish you were still here to see this.

Words of Support for the Trek

This Ash Cloud was starting to get me down, was starting to worry about whether it was ever going to go away. Could see 4 months of anticipation and training for the Trek going down the swannee, but it does look like the tide has turned at last . One of my poor colleagues has been stranded in Turkey and he still does not know when he is coming home.

Am pleased that the Charity fundraising is stll ticking along, it is really difficult because there is so much competition for money these days. There are so many worthy charities. Got a nice boost from Geoff Ford, Chairman of STMF today, words of support and encouragement are just as valuable, they act as spur in times when you get the occasional doubting thoughts. Have already had some contibutions from other members. I also had a lot of help and encouragement from my friend Dave Cottam of Cottam Brush, the best brush maker in the business. Secretly I think they all must think I am mad.

Also got sent a compression bag from my friends at LYON. My total inexperience at the preparation of the kit I need was highlighted by the fact I was wondering how I would fit the 4 seasons Sleeping Bag into my kit bag. A decent EXPED waterproof compression bag did the trick.

I have got so many people to thank for their support. I will find a way when I get back. I will have 17 days to take in the magnificent views and contemplate the meaning of life (which I assume we all know that the answer is 42).

Training Update

Completed my first long hike at the weekend – about 12 miles around the moorlands near Bowes, went with a lovely bunch of people from the BOLDON ASSOCIATION OUTDOOR CLUB. Invested in a pair of waterproof trousers, but the weather kept dry , realised that ankle gaiters are a must. Surprised at the lack of aches and pains the following day, so maybe the days in the gym are paying off. Booked up for a trip to Askrigg in WENSLEYDALE where I will have a go at the longer walk.

Not really started collected for the charity side of the walk yet, but just heard that one of the other walkers has already collected £6K so will have to up my game a little.

I would like to thank all the people that have supported me so far, it is great to see the words of abuse and support. Gary have not given up the double sausage sandwiches , have just postponed them until MAY 18th. Thanks for your help with the resin case. For those that need resin supplies check EAST COAST FIBRE GLASS SUPPLIES.
