Petzl MYO RXP (E87P-MYORXP) Headlamp/Torch

Petzl MYO RXP (E87P-MYORXP)

Today we are looking at the Petzl MYO RXP Head torch, a masterpiece of both design and style. The MYO RXP is for anyone who is serious about head torches and enjoys activities where light is essential.

With the MYO the user is easily able to adapt the light output by choosing one of many settings ranging from 8 to 140 lumens, with the added bonus of a boost function which can give up to 160 lumens of intense light.

To optimise performance the MYO is compatible with lithium batteries which means that in extreme conditions such as freezing cold, performance is still optimum and the head torch can perform at its full. Light indicators let the user know when the battery levels are at 30% and 10% charge so the user is always in tune knowing when they need to replace any batteries or if indeed they too at all saying as the MYO has an average battery life of an incredible 95 hours on the first setting of the head torch!

The batteries needed for use are simply 3 x AA cells which are included with the product and if any additional batteries did need to be purchased you can check out our range of AA cells here.

Finally the MYO RXP does not only have a wide angle lens meaning changing from a spot to flood beam couldn’t be easier, but it is also water resistant to make life easy and simple.

You can currently snap up this product for an incredible £63.45 Inc. VAT!, but if you feel like you don’t need as many features in a head torch you can check out our entire range of Petzl products here.

Petzl Core Rechargeable Battery (For Tikka – Zipka 2 Headlamps)

Petzl Core Rechargeable Headlamp/Torch Battery

Introducing Petzl’s solution to purchasing new batteries for any headtorch you may own from the Tikka 2 / Zipka 2 / Tikkina 2 range in the form of the Core!

The basic idea is a simple rechargeable battery pack that will save you having to constantly carry around / purchase new batteries for your Petzl headtorch and on average this can mean a saving of purchasing 900 AAA cells for the lifetime of their headtorch, that’s an astonishing saving!

The pack inserts between the standard front and back, where the batteries usually sit and whilst it may add a little bulk over disposable batteries (pictured below) it actually weighs less!

Petzl Core Rechargeable Headlamp/Torch Battery Demonstration

On average the Core battery  pack will last 300 charging cycles (this is where the 900 AAA cells would have been!) and it comes with a USB connection for ease of charging around any computer or peripheral device which supports USB charging. An additional charging kit for wall sockets can be purchased additionally here, but for the majority of people USB charging is just as good if not more efficient for them.

This product can be programmed using Petzl’s own software CORTEX available from here. Using this software in conjunction with the Petzl core allows for the optimisation of the battery pack based upon individual needs.

For the true techies you can expand the detailed specification for the Petzl Core by clicking

  • Compatible with the whole Tikka 2 / Zipka 2 / Tikkina 2 range

  • Re-chargeable up to 300 times (equivalent to 900 AAA batteries) before any performance drop
  • CORTEX software allows personal optimisation of your head-torch
  • Lithium Ion Polymer technology – gives excellent performance at low temperatures
  • 3 LED battery charge indicator
  • 3 year guarantee or 300 charging cycles

We are currently selling the Petzl Core for the incredibly low price of just £30.62 Inc. VAT! (That’s nothing compared to the equivalent option of 900 AAA cells!)

Petzl Pixa Range

Petzl Pixa Range (Storage Demonstration)

Petzl have recently brought to us their new Pixa range which we were of course very excited about!

There are three headlamps in the range simply called the Pixa 1, Pixa 2 and Pixa 3.

The really impressive thing about the entire Pixa range is how resistant they are to the forces of nature. Able of withstanding a two metre fall onto a hard surface and up to 80kg of weight (demonstrated in the image below).

Petzl Pixa Range (Weight Demonstration)

It seems like Petzl have really out done themselves once again, but let’s take a look at things which apply to all of the range first of all.

First off these headlamps have more certifications than that of a vast majority but don’t take our word for it and look at this:

ATEX and HAZLOC certifications
(Designed for use in explosive environments)

ATEX standard:
Usable in gaseous (Zone 2) and dusty (Zone 22) environments.

HAZLOC standard:
Usable in gaseous (Class I Div 2) and dusty (Class II Div 2) environments, or in uncontaminated environments.

(certification valid only with alkaline batteries)

Not only all of the above which makes the entire range seem like a gift from above for some hobbyists, but due to their certifications the Pixa range looks very interesting on a business side of things too.

One final thing to mention about this entire Range is that it is chemical resistant (please find a list of chemicals here) AND water resistant to IP67 (That’s 1 metre depth for 30 minutes to you and me), simply marvellous!

The headtorch itself has three modes which are maximum, economic and flashing. Changing between these modes couldn’t be easier as the process is operated using a simple push button for ease of operation. Petzl Tikka XP Atex Headlamp/Torch Review

Petzl Tikka XP Atex (EZX6626)
Petzl has finally done it – combined all the great things about its Tikka headlamp and put it together with its new XP technology to give a penetrating beam with a bit more oomph in the new Tikka XP ATEX.

The new light has a claimed maximum light distance of 50 meters (using a boost mode) with a normal beam of 35 meters. That puts it right up there as a light you can use for more than just pottering around the camp or lighting the way on an easy route. There are just some climbs and walks when you need that extra reach for route-finding. It’s also good to have the extra stretch should you ever find yourself doing search and rescue on a mountain. The light is so good I’d almost nominate as one of the best mountaineering headlamps there is, but it is outclassed by slightly bigger lights that have just a bit more power.
With fresh batteries its three LEDs are just a tad bright for reading in the tent. For big expeditions most climbers have been forced to carry a bigger hybrid light with a combination of halogen bulb and LEDs – The obvious problem is that most of these are bulky with a separate battery compartment (and I hate the ones that sit at the back of the head causing clutter) and have a main beam that eats batteries the way slot machines go through coins in Vegas.
The Tikka Plus, which has four LEDs, casts a better beam for walking by and also comes with fancier electronics allowing you to choose three light levels for everything from walking to reading in bed. It also has a blinking mode, useful if you’re trying to attract attention. So far I’m more than happy with it, but I do kinda wish I’d waited for the Tikka XP.
About the Tikka XP
The company claims a battery life of 120 hours on the lowest setting and 60 hours at its bright setting for a 35 meter beam. The boost only works for about 20 seconds at a time to prevent overheating.
This light looks a strong contendor to muscle out the MYO XP on which it’s based. That light offers a slightly longer battery life and a main beam that carries about 10 meters further, but with all the disadvantages of a separate battery back, which will be an inconvenience for most people except those going to extra cold places and need a remote battery holder that can go down the inside of clothing to keep going strong as the temperature drops.

One of the main advantages of the Atex approved Tikka XP is its certification to the following standards:

- EX II 3 G, Eex nL IIBT4
- CE EN 50 014 EN 50 021

Petzl also offer a 3 year guarantee with this product.

You can buy the Petzl Tikka XP here at Cell Pack Solutions.
